We recently partnered with the Autism Alliance of Michigan (AAoM) and conducted a survey in an attempt to identify the accessibility of ABA services and needs of families with children diagnosed with autism during this time.

In sum, Approximately 75% of respondents reported spending some time on a waitlist prior to receiving ABA services. Average duration on the waitlist was 5.5 months. Families reported their child's behavior got worse the longer they spent on a waitlist. Although most families indicated wanting some type of training or support, they also indicated barriers that might interfere with their ability to easily access these resources.

We recommend professionals develop and offer additional resources to families awaiting services. We also suggest that these resources are available in various formats as a way to offer options and flexibility to meet the specific needs of the family.
